Lost or Stolen Card

To report a lost or stolen ATM or debit card during banking hours, please call your branch office. To report a lost or stolen ATM or debit card outside of banking hours, please call Bank by Phone at (888) 955-2265 and press 8. If you prefer, login onto our Online Banking service and then click on “options” for assistance.

ATM or Debit Cardholder's Requirements:
    
(1) The call center must be able to identify the Financial Institution, therefore, one of the following must be provided:

• First six digits of their card
• Bank Headquarters information

• Financial Institution's ABA (routing and transit) Number - 053112039

(2) The call center must be able to identify the Cardholder Information, therefore all of the following information is required:

• Name on the card, exactly as it is embossed on the plastic.
• Full address of the card owner.
• Daytime phone number.
• Reason the card needs the status changed to "Hot".

(3) The cardholder should provide (if available):

• Last 4 digits of the card number for verification purposes - This can be obtained from a receipt or bank statement.

ATM/Debit Card Informational Safety Tips
As with all financial transactions, please exercise discretion when using an ATM. For your own safety, be careful. The following suggestions may be helpful:

• Record each transaction in your account record, but not while at the ATM.
• Always save your receipts. Do not leave them at the ATM because they may contain important account information.
• Compare your records with the account statements you receive.
• Do not lend your ATM/debit card to anyone.
• Do not leave your card at the ATM.
• Protect your ATM/debit card as if it were cash.
• Protect the secrecy of your Personal Identification Number (PIN).
  • Do not tell anyone your PIN.
  • Do not give anyone information regarding your ATM/debit card or provide your PIN over the telephone. A Bank of North Carolina representative would NEVER call and ask you for this information.
  • Do not keep your PIN with your card. For example, do not keep a record of your PIN in your wallet or purse.
• If your ATM/debit card is lost or stolen, notify us immediately. If the Bank is closed, call 24-hours a day at (888) 955-2265
• When you use an ATM, be mindful of your surroundings.

What is an ATM Surcharge?
An ATM surcharge is an ATM transaction fee that is imposed by the owner of the ATM. The owner of the ATM may be your bank, another bank, and even a non-bank business. An ATM surcharge may be imposed in addition to any transaction fees charged by your bank. BNC Bank does not assess ATM transaction fees or ATM surcharge fees to its customers.

How do I avoid ATM surcharges?

• Use BNC Bank's ATM machines.
• Use the "cash back" feature available at many grocery stores, convenience stores, and discount stores when making a purchase.
• Withdraw more cash during each ATM visit but visit the ATMs less often.
• Use your debit card rather than cash when possible.

How will I know how much an ATM will charge me?
There will be a sign posted on the ATM itself stating if any charge will apply. Once you have inserted your card and entered your PIN, a notice of any charge must appear, giving you the option of canceling the transaction without being accessed a fee.

How do I know which financial institution owns the ATM?
There is a sign posted on the ATM stating the name of the financial institution.

Does BNC Bank charge me for using an ATM machine not owned by BNC Bank?
No, but the owner of the ATM may charge you.

Will I be charged if I use my card to make a purchase at a merchant and ask for cash back?
Generally, no. However, a small number of businesses have started charging a "cash back" fee.

If I am a BNC Bank customer and use another bank's debit, credit or ATM card at a BNC Bank ATM, will I be assessed a surcharge fee?
Yes. Only BNC Bank ATM and debit cards can be used at a BNC Bank ATM without being charged a surcharge fee.

Does BNC Bank assess a surcharge for balance inquiries, deposits, or transfers?
No, only cash withdrawals are subject to an ATM surcharge.

You should notify BNC Bank immediately if your card is lost or stolen. If the Bank is closed, call toll free at (888) 955-2265 to report a lost or stolen card.
